A man stands fully present in this cabinet card — named, signed, photographed by D. Nordberg of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, every detail of him intact and accounted for. Above him, a woman has been lifted entirely out of her own portrait and raised in resin, looming over the frame rather than standing inside it — present, but displaced from the record that should have held her.
Below, the photograph tears open onto a handwritten letter, its blue cursive surfacing through the gap. A typed line settles into the wound: the space she made. Where the first piece in this series asks who gets remembered standing in the frame, this one asks what happens when she's the one written out of it — and what she built instead, just outside its edges.
